Andy Warhol exhibition Singapore - what I wore
On Sunday I visited a fantastic exhibition of Andy Warhol. Already a fan of his artwork, I'm now even more impressed!
You may already know this, but here are some interesting facts about his life and work that I had forgotten:
- He was born to working class Slovakia born parents.
- He was quite sickly as a kid and he spent big amounts of fourth dimension drawing in his bed.
- He actually started equally a fashion illustrator. Editors loved him for his vivid work, but also considering he was very willing to change the drawings and exercise exactly what the editors wanted.
- He later did a lot of shoe illustrations and advertising work for shoes.
- He created time capsules. Basically he put everything that had inspired him during a item fourth dimension in a box. I was able to meet the contents of one of those boxes, which was total of pictures, newspaper clippings and magazines. I was particularly impressed past the magazines. Even the cover of the Seventeen magazine looks and so aesthetic and stylish! He had 612 finished time capsules!
- His studio "The Mill" was completely argent coloured and covered in aluminium foil.
- He was virtually killed in 1968 when he got shot by Valerie Solanas. Possibly I did non know well-nigh this as Robert F. Kennedy got shot but 2 days later, which got all the coverage.
- He painted many rich people for portait commissions in the 1970s.
- He founded Interview Magazine.
- He got back into painting again after being influenced by creative person Jean-Michel Basquiat.
- He died quite unexpectedly from a routine gallbladder operation in 1987.
- In his will he dictated that his manor get towards the "advancement of the visual arts".
Of course he is very famous for turning very ordinary products into pieces of art. Here is what he said on the subject:
"What'south dandy almost this land is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers purchase essentially the same things every bit the poorest. You can exist watching Tv and meet Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca-Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca-Cola, and just think, yous tin can beverage Coca-Cola, too. A Coke is a Coke and no corporeality of coin can get you lot a meliorate coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are the aforementioned and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows information technology, the bum knows it, and you know it."
The importance of fine art
I accept come back from this exhibiton with a renewed sense of awe for artists and determined to visit more than fine art exhibitons. I really liked what i of my favorite designers, Tina Tan-Leo from Alldressedup, had to say near the importance of art in a recent Harper'due south Bazar Singapore:
"Art keeps you dreaming and allows for a beautiful and artistic outlet of expression out of the box. It pushes yous to be unlike and counter the routine of life. Fine art frees one's mind and ultimately enriches the soul"
Near the outfit
I bought this layered skirt a while ago in Bali and usually clothing it with something white on top. Just, as you know, I desire to vesture more colour so I combined it with my MPhosis red elevation. Unfortunately, I forgot to straighten the skirt before taking the pictures, so the drapes look a chip unbalanced. Normally the drapes fall at the same point every bit the drapes of the red shirt start, giving it a very counterbalanced look with this peak. My hair looks very messy in the air current too! My blackness and white necklace is proving to be a real winner. I find that information technology suits then many outfits!
I promise you lot all had a fabulous weekend? What inspired you this weekend and what did you wear?
